Rock Across America

Our Mission is to free the people of the United States from the National Debt and to support educational programs for children across the country.  The burden of the National Debt will be symbolized by manually hauling a large rock across America with the support of schools, churches, civic organizations and businesses.  Donations will be collected.

When the donations equal the total National Debt, the money will be signed over to the government.  Until that time, 50% of all interest will be utilized to fund educational programs. The principal can never be used for any other purpose.

On March 17th we moved The Rock out of the woods - click the image to the right or here: "Moving the Rock"  for a clip of the day's event.  More video will be updated soon!

We need your help to keep the effort moving  - please e-mail us to ask how you can help.

ReadyTo Move

The Rock is getting ready to be moved out of the woods!  There was much work done over the summer to get it ready for moving and now, while the ground is still frozen, it will be pulled from the woods.  This should happen in March.

Next phase is to build a cart that can safely support it.  Come back soon to see our progress.

We would also like to thank Flatbread's Pizza of Portland for sponsoring our first Fundraising event last October.  We raised $1200 that is helping support our start up efforts.

Rock Across America was incorporated as a Non-Profit organization in February 2008.

In November of 2010 the IRS approved Rock Across America as a 501(c)(3) Charitable organization.

We are looking for volunteers to develop this project and to organize the movement of The Rock on its journey between cities and towns all across the country.  If you your like to help in this mission - please contact us at:

                 Rock Across America is about
our kids and future generations.

The National Debt reached $15 trillion dollars in 2012.  That is over $49,000 per person. Can we as individuals or a nation afford that kind of debt?

How can we draw attention to this shocking amount of debt and how can we reverse this trend?

Rock Across America will collect donations by transporting a symbol of our debt, a rock, across the country. Collecting donations to erase the national debt is, by many standards, just plain crazy, but the uncontrolled rising of the national debt evokes an even greater lunacy.  This initiative is a first step in a mission to reverse that trend – and it will take decades.  But even in the face of financial failure, the rock will serve a purpose.

  • As the rock passes through towns, it will raise the awareness of the general public regarding the consequences of the national debt and encourage action on their parts. Elected officials will take notice.

  • The rock will touch the lives of many as it is pulled through cities and towns to high school soccer and football games, community events, or rock concerts.  The image of 50 school aged children pulling the rock – the symbol of the debt - down local streets with have a powerful impact on all who see it.

  • Our children will understand the meaning of fiscal responsibility and be empowered as leaders and voters of the future.

  • Fifty percent of the interest earned from donations will support educational programs of all kinds.  Even if the ultimate goal of paying off the debt cannot be met, educational needs can be funded.

Come take part in the effort! Throw fifty cents or five dollars into the pot, help organize  the movement of the rock through your state or your town, have a bake sale, encourage your local merchants to become involved, or just grab one of the ropes and pull it for a few miles.  We have to start somewhere.
